About The Company

Gastar Exploration, Ltd., an independent natural gas and oil company, engages in the exploration, development, and production of natural gas and oil in the United States and Australia. The company focuses its drilling activities on exploiting its drilling locations in the deep Bossier sands and Knowles Limestone plays in the Hilltop area of east Texas, and exploitation of coal bed methane (CBM) assets in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana. It also focuses on the development of approximately 2.9 million net acres of CBM rights in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia. Gastar Exploration has a total of approximately 16,300 net acres in the Bossier play, and owns an approximate 40% average working interest in approximately 21,900 net acres in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana. It also holds a 35% interest in PEL 238, a CBM exploratory property covering approximately 786,000 net acres, located in the Gunnedah Basin of New South Wales, Australia; interests in the Gunnedah Basin Gas Project comprising PEL 433-434 in the Gunnedah Basin, New South Wales, Australia under a joint venture with Eastern Star Gas Limited; and a 75% interest in the CBM rights in EL 4416, an approximate 750,000 net acre property covering a principal part of the onshore portion of the Gippsland Basin of Victoria, Australia. The company was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
